| Interviewer: | Violet said at the end of last episode that Tate is all darkness. Is that how you see your character? |
| Evan: | No. I mean, I think he wants to be good. I just think that he messes everything up. He goes about it the wrong way; he goes about it in a dark way, I guess. |
| Interviewer: | Yes, killing and rape are dark! Are you surprised that you have so many fangirls, considering? There’s a Tatesfangirl Tumblr. |
| Evan: | I literally didn’t know what Tumblr was [until] I did a photo shoot with Tyler Shields, and he texted me, and he’s like, “Dude, all the girls love you.” I was like, “What are you talking about?” And he said there were all these Tumblr views or something. And I didn’t want to text back, like, “What’s Tumblr?” So I just Googled it. |
| Interviewer: | What do you think it says about girls, that so many of them like Tate? |
| Evan: | I think that it’s fascinating. I mean, I think there’s something kind of sexy about Tate. There’s something that’s sexy about a guy who has the strength to kill somebody, but is also vulnerable enough to be in love. It’s just those two sides — like, I don't know why, but women for some reason aren’t attracted to normal guys, like, guys who are in between. But if you really take a step back and look at Tate, he’s insane. The way he loves Violet is creepy; it’s completely unhealthy. But I can see why they are attracted to him: He’s totally in love with Violet. And he’s a gangster. |
